Hip-hop newcomer Kid Cudi has once again changed the title of his forthcoming sophomore album for the third time. Originally to be titled “Cudder” then to “Cudder and The Revolution of Evolution”, the album will now go by the name of ”Man on the Moon II : The Legend of Mr. Rager” and is intended to be released by August .
Cudi has been quoted as saying, “I started making this project like a collab album, filled with fun and upbeat records that for the most part left you with jack s**t when you were finished listening. I took a step back, went on tour, and realized I’m where I’m at because of the type of songs I write.”
Perhaps it can be said that this delay is more-so a quality control issue rather than a quantity issue. I definitely respect Cudi’s art and reputation and he should definitely keep his album in sort of a work in progress status to ensure that everything turns out okay and the public gets their money’s worth. I definitely enjoyed his first album and can’t wait until the forthcoming August release date of “Man on the Moon II : The Legend of Mr. Rager”.
A few days ago Absolut Vodka brand released the much anticipated "NY-Z" documentary to the web. I'm quite shocked as to how so much is packed within these 15 minutes. There are a number of familiar faces also presented throughout who give their own personal insight into Jay and his body of work. In "NY-Z" Jay's talent is showcased and we also get a somewhat candid interview on him since he's not very much of a communicator with the public at large. I had the chance of seeing Jay this past fall and it was a phenomenal night from beginning to end. He is well worth the money as it shows in "NY-Z" and you better go get your tickets before his BP3 Tour ends!!!
About three weeks ago Mtv made an announcement regarding an entire recreation of it's iconic logo. In the announcement (Link) one executive is quoted as saying that "If you watch the channel, you've seen that it's definitely going in a new direction." Instantly I thought how dumb this woman sounded. We've all known the channel's been in a new direction for a good while now. In fact it's a bad direction. Some may say it's evolving but I know darn good and well that's lie. Mtv hasn't even been the same since about 2004 when they had that ultra lame Nick & Jessica Simpson show "Newlyweds". That was like the beginning of the end basically.
The way I see the entire image change is how can you name something Music Television but show 20 million reality shows all the time? It defeats the purpose of the channels name. MTV may as well change it's name RTV at the rate it's going. A few years ago Justin Timberlake even called the Viacom owned channel out for not playing many music videos on its Video Music Awards. I guess the execs took heed of that and only let videos be shown at some ungodly hour in the night when they figured no one is watching. Other things I've noticed is that music related shows and programs have been shifted to sister networks like Mtv2. Even MTV's own wikipedia page (even though it's not a credible source!) highlights the fact that the channel no longer refers to itself as music television!
Something definitely has to change. I believe the only way to for MTV to actually redeem itself would be to literally make a complete overhaul of it's programming. Kill off the reality and bring the music back. Record sales may even gain a boost as a result of this. I'm positive this would be a win-win situation and we (the viewers) just might consider MTV a channel of substance again. Who knows we might even start demanding that we want our MTV again like in the old days.
