The Soul Movement launched its first service on September 7, 2008, with 27 people in attendance. Today The Soul Movement has an active congregation of approximately 140 people, over 70% are single twenty-somethings.

The Soul Movement was birthed out of the vision of Leonard and Thais Moore, Wayne and Jasmine Williams, and Darren Kelly. Believing that the city of Austin needed a new church to meet the needs of young families, young professionals, and college students, and relocating out-of towners, they launched the vision of The Soul Movement on a napkin at Plucker's wing spot near the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.

Armed just with a vision to take the Gospel to a group of people traditionally not looking to attend church, they believed God, and with no money, no building, no support network, they stepped out on faith and launched The Soul Movement.

As we celebrate one year in ministry at the Khabele School, we realize how good God has been to us. It's amazing to see how God is working through every person and family in our church.

The following seven values represent the DNA of The Soul Movement:

1. Teach Basic Beliefs
2. Help people model Biblical values
3. Embrace evangelism
4. Saturate the church with God's love
5. Offer outrageous outreach
6. Use our talents to change the world
7. Live out what we believe

The Soul Movement is a culturally strategic church whose mission is to offer a fresh Biblical perspective on life, faith, and culture. With God's help we envision:

-an intergenerational church that is authentic, coureagous, creative and relevant
-a church where people who don't go to church find a home
-a church that transforms people, families, and communities into God's image
-a church where people grow spiritually through Biblically-centered teaching and small-group study
-a church where people are focused on being the church
-a church that provides God-pleasing entertainment for Metro Austin
-a church and community center in downtown Austin on several acres of land
-a church that sends hundreds of people every year on mission trips across the African Diaspora
-a church where people are committed to using their talents for God's glory
-a church where kids of all ages come to know Jesus through Soulkidz
-a Monday Night Fellowship with men gathering on a weekly basis to grow spiritually
SoulSisters as a place for women to gather and grow spiritually
-a staff-led church that leads with creativity

This is an exciting time for us and we invite you to come hang out with us.
